Midland ISD Announces At-Home Learning to Start School Year

MIDLAND, TX – The Midland Independent School District announced on Monday that students will be starting the school year with at-home learning.

According to MISD, on August 3, the district will open under the At-Home Instruction model. Classes will begin as scheduled on August 19, and continue virtual learning for the first four weeks.

Across the way in Ector County, the ECISD will still have August 12 as the starting date. ECISD will be offering various options including at home learning, in the classroom learning, or a hybrid learning. In high school students will not be able to go to school five days a week and the only students eligible on campus are those without internet at home or ECISD employees.

In San Angelo, SAISD is stlll shooting for the August 19 as the first day of school. Students here will have two options on how they will get their education.  Option 1 is a traditional, in-person instructional model with new safety protocols. Option 2 is a fully virtual instruction model called the SAISD Virtual Academy.

"As flexibility and adaptability is also a hallmark of this plan, you will be able to change from one option to the other at each 9-week grading period should your situation or preferences change." stated SAISD in a press release. "The health and safety of our students and staff remains a guiding priority in developing this plan, and we assure you that we are continuing to follow guidelines from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), local health authorities, city government, and the CDC as we prepare to open our schools."
