SAN ANGELO, TX – Melon Fest, featuring a sweet crop of cantaloupes and red and yellow meat watermelons will be from 7 a.m. until noon Saturday, July 18, at the Farmers Market Pavilion at 609 S. Oakes St. across from Fort Concho in San Angelo.
Many of the Concho Valley Farmers Market vendors, who come from a 75-mile radius around San Angelo, will be offering locally grown melons for sale during the event, along with other seasonal fruits, vegetables and plants.
Additionally, there will be music, door prizes consisting of free melons and other produce, and about 30 vendors.
The Farmers Market conducts sales each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from the spring through the fall.
The selection includes tomatoes, peaches, peppers, okra, squash, zucchini, greens, herbs, onions, leeks, garlic, peas, cucumbers, beans, eggplants, pecans, goat cheese, native Texas plants and homemade goodies.
Customers are typically charged $1 for a bundle or a bowl of produce. Cantaloupes cost $1 each, and watermelons are $4-$6.
Interested farmers can join the market for $15 or $20, which allows them to set up a stand for $5 or $10 at each sale.
