WINGATE, TX — As the market for solar energy continues to expand, Duke Energy Renewable officially begins commercial operations at its Holstein Solar project located in Nolan County.
“Texas is one of the fastest-growing solar energy markets in the country,” said Chris Fallon, vice president of Duke Energy Renewables, in a statement.
According to Kallanish Energy, the project contains more than 700,000 solar panels spread across 1,300 acres.
The facility will have the ability to power 40,000 homes using a 200-megawatt alternating current.
“Solar is a smart and reliable choice” in Texas, said Tom Buttgenbach, president and CEO of 8minute Solar Energy.
The Holstein Solar project is the first Texas project completed by the company. Duke Energy Renewables is a subsidiary of Duke Energy and acquired the solar project from 8minute Solar Energy.
The majority of the power produced at the Holstein Solar project will be sold through a 12-year term hedge agreement to J. Aron & Co. LLC, a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs.
