San Angelo Man Takes Plea Deal in Possession of Lewd Images Case

 

SAN ANGLO, TX – Jaime Mystic was sentenced to four years in prison Wednesday in exchange for a guilty plea as recommended by his state appointed attorney.

On the evening of March 28, 2018, employees from a local business were engaged in a work Easter egg hunt where employees were tasked to "hunt" for various gift certificates. 

If an employee found one of the certificates they were to take a picture of themselves holding the gift certificate before sending the pictures to an appointed employee's phone (Complainant) for confirmation.

According to the complainant, she received a series of text messages from Mystic with a few that included the defendant and another employee holding gift certificates. 

In the same series of text messages the complainant claimed she received multiple photos including those of several adolescent females, unclothed, and exposing their private areas.

Authorities were contacted immediately where an officer with the SAPD was dispatched to the Shannon Women's and Children's Center located on N. Main St to follow up on the report from a witness. 

When the officer met with the complainant he was shown the text messages and photos that were received from Mystic's cell phone number.

During their investigation, authorities confirmed the phone number from the texts did in fact match that of the defendants ultimately giving them authority to issue a warrant for his arrest. 

Mystic was arrested by officers with the San Angelo Police Department shortly after 9:00 p.m. on March 28, 2018, where he was held on charges for the possession of child pornography after officers state Mystic intentionally and knowingly possessed visual material that depicted adolescents, under the age of 18, engaged in sexual conduct or lewd exhibition of their private areas.

On May 7, 2018 Jaime Mystic was released from the Tom Green County Jail after posting $50,000.00 in bond as his case sat on the docket pending an indictment.

After being released for nearly a year and half a Tom Green County Grand Jury indicted 52-ear-old Jaime Mystic on one count of Possession of Child Pornography on September 5, 2019, which is a Third Degree Felony in the state of Texas.

Child pornography offenses for the transportation (including mailing or shipping), receipt, distribution, and possession with the intent to distribute or sell child pornography offenses typically carry a mandatory minimum term of 5 years of imprisonment and a maximum term of 20 years.

 Possession of child pornography is punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison, however does not carry a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment. If a defendant has a prior federal or state conviction for one or more enumerated sex offenses, the penalty ranges are enhanced.
