Overnight Camping Returns to Ivie, Spence Reservoirs

 
BIG SPRING, TX – The Colorado River Municipal Water District's park and recreation areas at O.H. Ivie, E.V. Spence and J.B. Thomas will be open to the public for overnight camping beginning Monday, May 18 according to a press release. 

The following is a list of the status of each of the parks. 


Lake J.B. Thomas
Bull Creek Park – Closed
Sandy Beach Park – Open, some permanent tables closed to maintain social distancing
South Side Park – Open, boat ramp open, group shelter closed, some permanent tables closed to maintain social distancing
Rocky Point Park - Closed
White Island Park - Open, group shelter closed, boat ramp closed

 

E.V Spence Reservoir
Observation Point – Open, day use only
Lake View Park – Open
South Side Park – Open
Wildcat Park – Open, boat ramp open, group shelter closed
Paint Creek Park – Open, boat ramp open

 

O.H. Ivie Reservoir
Concho Park – Open, boat ramp open, group shelter closed
Kennedy Park – Open, boat ramp open, group shelter closed
Padgett Park – Open, boat ramp open
Observation Point – Open, day use only

 

All District camp sites are primitive camping only (no electricity or water hook-ups). Camping is limited to a maximum of seven days. Some of the privately operated concessionaires located at E.V. Spence and O.H. Ivie Reservoirs have a limited number of non-primitive camp sites (contact concessionaires for details).


CRMWD is following the directives issued by Gov. Greg Abbott in an effort to promote public and staff health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Park visitors shall follow Federal, State and Local guidelines, recommendations and restrictions regarding gatherings of people and cleanliness standards while in public spaces. Select picnic shelters will be closed to provide separation distance.


Park concessionaires located at E.V. Spence and O.H. Ivie Reservoirs remain open at their discretion. Each concessionaire should be contacted for their operating hours and services provided. Concessionaire contact information is available on the CRMWD website at www.crmwd.org/recreation.


CRMWD will continue to monitor Federal, State and Local directives to promote public health and safety for outdoor recreation activities and will announce any changes or modifications.
