SAN ANGELO, TX — This small downtown business is leading the way re-opening San Angelo's economy and perhaps will offer hope for other businesses still waiting in the wings. Governor Abbott ordered businesses like Think in the Box, 123 E. Concho Ave., closed in response to the COVID-19 mitigation efforts since March 18 because escape rooms weren't essential businesses.
Have you ever heard of escape rooms? It's where participants solve difficult puzzles in small teams to escape. But escape is not always the objective.
In an escape room game, participants "discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in order to progress and accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time. The goal is often to escape from the site of the game," explained Lisa Lewis at Think in a Box. Lewis owns the only escape room in San Angelo that, after a couple years in business, had become a popular destination from around the region before it was closed by the COVID-19 shutdown.
Located in the heart of historic downtown in the former Western Mattress building, for its re-opening Think in the Box has re-imagined its games and provides this in a safe entertainment in light of social distancing and disinfecting surfaces. To celebrate their re-opening, the owners offer a 20 percent discount to all gamers in May.
Think in the Box re-opens Friday, May 18.
Access will be limited to small private groups from 2-10 people, in a private room of your choosing, among seven options: Fallout Shelter, Blue Virus, Bomblastic, Gold Rush Cabin, Industrial Chaos, Twist of Fate, and the newest room - Tesla's Coffin.
The escape room has normal hours each Friday through Sunday, but will open anytime by customer request.
"We offer seven immersive theme rooms for players from first-timers to experienced. We promise an experience you will remember for all the right reasons," Lewis said.
