Extreme Fire Danger: NWS Issues Red Flag Warning

SAN ANGELO, TX – The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from noon Wednesday until 8 p.m. this evening for southwestern counties in the Concho Valley.

The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. Southwest winds of 5 to 15 mph in the morning switching out of the west at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph by afternoon. Humidity will range from 10 to 15 percent.  Any fires that develop can spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged.

The Red Flag Warning is in effect for Irion, Crockett, Schleicher and Sutton counties.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will occur shortly. A combination of strong winds, low humidity and dry fuels will contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Critical Fire Weather conditions will develop across portions of the Concho Valley and Northern Edwards Plateau this afternoon and early evening.

The forecast calls for sunny and windy conditions today.  Highs near 90 degrees with winds out of the southwest at 15 to 20 mph gusting to 30 mph at times.

This is a dangerous weather situation.
