Police Officer Killed, 2 Injured in Ambush Attack

SAN MARCOS, TX -- One police officer was killed in the line of duty Saturday after he and two other officers were ambushed at an apartment complex in San Marcos. 

According to the San Marcos Police Department, on April 18,  officers with the SMPD were dispatched to an apartment complex. 

When they arrived, they were met with gunfire by a man with a rifle. The man subject shot all three officers. He then died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. 

Officer Justin Putnam was killed during the shoot-out. Officers Franco Stewart and Justin Mueller were taken to the hospital and are in critical condition but are stable.
