Huge Abilene Cookie Bakery Shuts Down After COVID-19 Outbreak

ABILENE, TX — The City of Abilene said that 445 COVID-19 tests were administered just to the workforce of a cookie bakery called Abimar Foods located on Abilene’s west side.

So far, nine workers there have tested positive.

The City will not reveal much about why so many testing resources were devoted to the Abimar workforce. Citywide, Abilene reported that they have tested 1185 citizens since the response to the pandemic began. Thursday, the City announced an additional 445 tests, or 38 percent of all tests given there, were administered just to the Abimar workforce.

The City promised a press conference on Monday, April 20, to announce “the company’s proactive response in minimizing the spread of the virus.” Abimar is shutdown as of today, according to KTXS.

Abimar bakes and packages saltine crackers in addition to wire cut cookies in flavors like chocolate chip, coconut macaroon, and oatmeal. The company also manufactures a sandwich creme cookie line. The cookies are marketed under the Lil Dutch Maid, Dutch Harvest, and Tru Blu brands.

In Abilene today, the City announced one new case in addition to the Abimar nine. The new case is a female in her 30s who is isolated at home.

Today, there are 80 positive cases, 913 negative cases, and 192 test results pending in Abilene. The City has tested 1185.

For this time forward, the City of Abilene will report the citywide results separate from the Abimar results.
