Ector County Students Must Use Clear Backpacks Next School Year

ODESSA, TX – Amid school closures for coronavirus, Ector County ISD has announced a new policy for the 2020-2021 school year.

According to CBS7, students attending junior high and high school will be required to have a clear or mesh backpack. Furthermore, purses and other bags can measure no more than 5 X 8 X 11. Students who have bags for athletics or fine arts must leave them inside their lockers or rehearsal halls. Students cannot bring any other types of bags inside the school.

"ECISD considers the safety of our students, staff, and visitors to be the highest priority and will continue to evaluate options to enhance security at all schools. A similar announcement for the athletics facilities at the Ratliff Stadium Complex will be coming soon," stated the district in a release.

Students who have not been assigned a locker can request one through their school’s principal.
