SAN ANGELO, TX – After receiving multiple calls from concerned citizens, the Tom Green County Election’s office would like to remind citizens they are not mailing out voter registration applications for current or deceased family members.
“I understand that it can be upsetting to receive these forms, especially for deceased family members”, stated election administrator Vona Hudson, “but we are not mailing them and we are more than happy to make sure that the records are correct for anyone that wants to check the information we have.”
Voters are encouraged to call 325-659-6541 to verify their registration status if they are unsure whether or not they are registered and if they received one for a deceased family member.
Those forms are mailed by different groups that are trying to ensure that everyone is registered and that their registration is current. As of this time the elections office is not aware where the organizations obtained the names for the mailings that were sent out.
“We do receive forms from voters that need to be registered and/or updated so it can be a helpful tool,” said Hudson. “If the voter will examine the form closely, they will find the name of the group that has mailed the form to them and establish that we did not mail it to them.”

This is a technique that has been used in the past by the GOP to get minorities and other groups off the voting rolls. It is mainly sent to those most likely to vote for a Democratic candidate. If the form is not sent back the GOP group then claims that person doesn't live at that address and then tries to get the voter off the voter rolls. The GOP was forbidden to use caging back in the 80s. Looks like they are back at it again. https://www.pbs.org/now/election-2008/question2.html
