As Spring Thunderstorm Line Rips Through San Angelo, Winds Gust to 60 mph

SAN ANGELO, TX — Spring weather is here. Saturday afternoon and early evening, a line of thunderstorms passed over the Concho Valley leaving a path of destruction in its path.

The National Weather Service in San Angelo said the storms dumped 0.57 inches of rain at Mathis Field. Winds were seen with peak gusts at 60 mph.

The winds knocked out power to many residents and businesses. At the Walmart and Lowe’s on Sherwood Way, the power outage closed all the stores early for Easter which is tomorrow.

Near Angelo State University, a roof on a part of St Mark Presbyterian Church blew off. Over the radio, there was a report of an overturned delivery truck with the driver trapped inside. We could not pinpoint the location. First responders were worried about the downed power line draped over the truck.

By 8 p.m., AEP was reporting 1,048 San Angelo electricity meters without power. The San Angelo Police Department reported multiple traffic lights without power. Police asked drivers to treat those areas like four-way stops.

The National Weather Service said more storms are likely into the early morning. However, most of the weather action will be south and southeast of San Angelo between 10 p.m. tonight and 2 a.m. Easter morning, they said.
