H-E-B Donates $3 Million to Texas Organizations Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

SAN ANGELO, TX – H-E-B will be donating $3 million to local organizations that are struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“During these trying times, H-E-B is here for Texas,” said Winell Herron, H-E-B Group Vice President of Public Affairs, Diversity and Environmental Affairs. “Now, more than ever, H-E-B is keeping with our Spirit of Giving and Helping Here philosophies to do everything we can to support our fellow Texans.”

The donation will provide aid to groups that are greatly affected by the pandemic, including seniors, children, and low-income families. Organizations that provide aid to these groups may experience significant changes as social distancing measures continue to restrict social interaction.

H-E-B’s Hunger Relief Program will be donating $1.2 million to support 18 food banks throughout Texas, allowing the distribution of more than 6 million meals. The retailer will also be delivering 15 trucks of food and household supplies to a variety of food banks. H-E-B works with food banks affiliated with Feeding Texas, a member of Feeding America.

“H-E-B’s donation comes at a critical time as food banks across the state are stepping in to provide emergency food to the people and communities impacted by COVID-19,” said Celia Cole, Feeding Texas CEO. “We are grateful to H-E-B for its support. Together we will ensure no Texan goes hungry during this public health crisis.”

The store will also donate $500,000 in financial assistance to groups that deliver food to seniors and low-income families.

Of the $3 million pledged, $300,000 will be donated to the Texas Biomedical Research Institute that is dedicated to coronavirus research in San Antonio.
