SONORA, TX – The City of Sonora is expected to confirm their first case of Coronavirus in the coming days.
According to The Devil’s River News, a resident from the city has been tested for Coronavirus after they had a negative test for flu and strep. Lillian M. Hudspeth Hospital Administrator Andy Kolb confirmed that the patient had all the symptoms associated with the virus and that a high probability exists the test will be positive.
“We are following the CDC and state criteria for testing,” said Kolb. “It is still unconfirmed but there is a high probability that they will test positive.”
The patient lives in Sonora and is an employee at a local truck stop. Sonora receives visitors from all over the county as they are a stop to fill up for gas along Interstate-10.
“This has been our worst fear all along,” Kolb said. “Coming from the interstate. We knew it was our biggest vulnerability.”
The results are expected to be available by Tuesday of next week or possibly sooner.
Lillian M. Hudspeth Hospital and the Sonora Rural Health Clinic are implementing curbside screening services for COVID-19 (Coronavirus). The testing will be conducted at a mobile screening station located in front of the hospital entrance gate.
“We are hoping to have a canopy set up by 5 o’clock today and we will be doing curbside screening, “said Kolb.
