SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo Restaurant Association is encouraging consumers to continue eating at local restaurants by providing temporary guidelines that can ensure the safety of all patrons.
As of this time, there are currently no confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in Tom Green County and members of the association have “pledged to take a few extra precautions during this uncertain time.”
Restaurants are implementing the following guidelines:
- “No Hand Shaking Zones” in restaurants and a general 3 ft rule between parties.
- Removing table settings and condiments on tables and sanitizing them after each use
- Additional disinfecting of tables, chairs, and booths between seating
- Continuing to practice proper sanitation techniques at the highest level
- Taking advantage of pickup and to-go options when available
“Feel comfortable in knowing that our restaurants have always focused on sanitation and we will continue to practice the highest of sanitation standards to ensure the health and safety of the public,” said the association in a statement.

I am personally and professionally very disappointed that the Association is choosing profit and the attempt at maintaining normalcy over safety.
There are no reported cases in San Angelo. And, when there is, it's 2 weeks too late. It is contagious before symptoms show, and it takes an estimated 5 to 14 days for those symptoms to show. The time to change is before it is confirmed.
Italy took a lax attitude toward the virus, they are paying a very heavy price in lives, misery and their economy. They continued life as usual because it "isn't here yet", but it was. It's how contagions work.

Or just go to the Boston Globe and look for it.
Take responsibility, put the safety of people, and those most vulnerable ahead of profit and trying to maintain normal. This is not normal.
Yes, closing restaurants, businesses is going to hurt, very badly. I also own a business. But it's temporary, a fiasco such as in Italy could take the USA a year or longer to recover. I feel we must do the hard things now or do them later for a longer time and at a higher price.
The numbers? If we continue to handle it as poorly as Italy at the local level, expect close to 1 million deaths in the USA. That is based on their current deaths in a country of 60 million people. And it's climbing by hundreds every day.
How about an alternative? Like what NYC did? Takeout or delivery orders only. No common dining area. People still get to eat. Employees get to work. Exposure is limited.
Think. Look ahead.
Just my humble opinion.

PermalinkSending out information like this is incredibly irresponsible. There is no way to make dinning out safe at the moment. The San Angelo Restaurant Association is only worried about their bank accounts. PLEASE USE YOUR HEADS PEOPLE. Let’s not be selfish, think of others if you aren’t going to think of yourselves. This is unbelievable on so many levels. The fact we don’t have a confirmed case here at the moment does not mean the virus isn’t here already!
