ABILENE, TX – Before beginning the City Council Meeting on Thursday morning, Abilene Mayor Anthony Williams said in a brief statement that “Abilene is at risk” for the coronavirus.
According to Big Country Homepage, the mayor stated that there are currently three residents who have self-quarantined. As of this morning, none of the quarantined individuals had tested positive for the virus. There is no information as to why the individuals decided to undergo the preemptive quarantine.
The mayor assured citizens that Abilene is prepared to combat the virus if it makes its way to the area.
Abilene-Taylor County Public Health employees are in constant contact with state health officials and the CDC to ensure the city and county are prepared.
Mayor Williams reminded the public to be smart by washing their hands, avoiding big crowds, and staying home if they are ill.
The city stated it is in contact with all three universities, Abilene and Wylie ISDs, and Dyess AFB in preparation for a possible outbreak.
