Severe Weather Could Affect Local Turnout and Timely Results on Election Day

SAN ANGELO, TX – Voters in Tom Green County could face a severe weather threat Tuesday afternoon and election results could be delayed if forecasters with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo are right. 

According to the NWS, severe weather is possible beginning Tuesday afternoon.  Thunderstorms are expected Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. There is a possibility for some of these storms to become strong to severe. The main hazards will be large hail, gusty winds, and cloud to ground lightning. In addition, the rain is expected to be heavy at times which could lead to flooding of streets and other low-lying areas, which would cause major headaches for voters and election workers driving to and from the polls Tuesday afternoon and evening. 

The forecast calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms before 7 a.m. Tuesday then a chance of showers between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. High near 64. Light and variable wind becoming east northeast 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

It could be a stormy night Tuesday night as voters and candidates wait for election results across West Texas. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast Tuesday night  and Wednesday morning before 1a.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1a.m. Some storms could be severe, with heavy rain. Low around 45. East northeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
