Nearly 12,000 Students Attended Goodfellow AFB in 2019

SAN ANGELO, TX – Goodfellow Air Force Base 17th Training Group Commander Colonel Andres R. Nazario updated attendees at the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon Tuesday on the 2019 Goodfellow AFB year in review.

The luncheon was held at the Bentwood Country Club and Col. Nazario focused on vision, leadership and energy 'the Goodfellow Way'.

Nazario listed the 17th Training Group's mission accomplishments for 2019 including conducting 1,489 classes, producing 11,897 graduates for 13 Air Force career fields and 38 Joint Service career field specialties fo the five service branches.

2019 also saw the largest overhaul of the international training course in 30 years according to Nazario.

He also highlighted the community partnerships for 2019 including establishing a center for teaching and learning with Angelo State University, Howard College and the San Angelo Independent School District.

Nazario also talked about the recently completed Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant (DEAAG) which was administered by Tom Green County.  The DEAAG grant was for $4.55 million and facilitated renovations to two existing base buildings and provided an addition to the Cressman Dining Facility.

As we reported Tuesday, Tom Green County Commissioners approved a resolution supporting another DEAAG grant application which would allow for a warrior dog training facility.

Col. Nazario also said GAFB saved the city of San Angelo $200,000 in labor cost for city vehicles and revitalized the Goodfellow Express Shuttle program which provides free transportation for GAFB members.

Part of the 17th Training Group's Mission at Goodfellow AFB is to develop and inspire exceptional intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and fire protection professionals for America and her allies and set the standard for innovation, agility, professionalism, and life long learning for members of the military who train there.

I've never met one of the "Goodfellow kids" who wasn't polite, friendly and respectful. They are such a welcome segment of our community and should be commended for their service. Thank you!!
