WATCH: Two Story House Burns on Old Christoval Road

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Old Christoval Rd. after a passing driver called 9-1-1 about the fire.

Battalion Chief Fred Barnett spoke to reporters on the scene and told them that the engine at the new San Angelo Fire Department Station #4 responded to the scene. When they arrived, firefighters observed flames and smoke pouring out of the first floor. The firefighters made entry and requested backup from two other station houses in San Angelo.

Fortunately, the two-story house was unoccupied as it was being renovated or had recently been renovated for new tenants to move in sometime in the future. The lack of furnishings inside the home allowed firefighters easy access to the building and allowed them to concentrate on knocking down the flames that they believe originated in the kitchen.

WATCH: The scene of the fire:

According to Chief Barnett, a preliminary investigation suggests that the fire began near the stove and flames made their way up into the second floor through the ceiling; causing that area to catch on fire. A fire marshal is at the scene investigating the cause of the fire.

In addition to the backup engines that were called in, a ladder crew was brought in to help clear out the smoke on the second floor. By opening up a skylight and vent they were able to pump in the fresh air and clear it out relatively quickly.

The power was cut to aid the firefighters in their efforts, causing other homes in the area to lose power as well. AEP is currently on the scene working on restoring the power to those homes.

The kitchen will be overhauled, and the fire department will spend the next few hours searching the house to ensure no embers or hidden fires can cause the fire to re-kindle. They will continue to monitor the home to ensure no other incident occurs.

No injuries were reported at the scene.
