The annual Girl Scouts canoe race teamed up with Riverfest this year to be a part of the city festivities.
One particular race in this year’s event was the military race between the Air Force, Marines, and the Army.
All three canoes were neck and neck until just after the turn at the buoy, where the air force got the inside track.
Here, the army swung wide.
Logic would suggest that the Marines take the race, after all, ‘Marine’ suggests water proficiency, but the Airforce took the win this race.
The army, not known for their water prowess, managed to capsize their canoe.
David Carr of KIXY, who was commenting on the races, jokingly said, “note that a woman hasn’t fallen in the river yet.”
He was corrected that one of the canoers was a woman, he then amended his statement to say, “None of our girl scouts have fallen in.”
From her position in the Concho, she yelled back, “I’m a lifetime girl scout.”
The army eventually righted their canoe and finished strong to many good-natured claps and cheers.
