San Angelo Businessmen to Network at Inaugural Local Men Who Give a 'Darn' Tonight

SAN ANGELO, TX — If you ran a San Angelo non-profit, what could you do with an extra $10,000 to spend this month?

That’s what one charity will find out tonight at the first ever 100 Men Who Give a Damn.

What is it?

Several San Angelo men have teamed up to create a networking and charity group aimed at supporting non-profit organizations in the area.

Attorney Brian Raymond said the group is informal. It is not a 501(c)3 for tax purposes. The checks attendees give are written to the winning charity, not the men’s group, he explained.

The group expects to create a nucleus of men, dubbed “100 Men Who Give a Damn” at Tuesday night’s inaugural happy hour at the Casual Pint at 19 E. Concho Ave. Representatives from three charities will each make an 8-minute pitch to the men. Then, the men vote by secret ballot on to whom each will donate their $100.

The winning charity takes all, however. “Regardless of who you originally supported, you have to write your $100 check to the charity that won the vote,” explained real estate broker Ryan Newlin, a co-organizer.

But the $10,000 windfall for a local charity doesn’t happen unless 100 men show up tonight. Newlin said he doesn’t know how many will show up. Raymond is optimistic. He’s been texting invites for days, he admits.

The event is an excellent opportunity to network with business owners in San Angelo. Happy hour begins at 5 p.m. The presentations are at 6 p.m. Networking happens before and after. Any man who cares about local charities is invited. All one needs to do is show up to downtown’s Casual Pint tonight.
