COOKE COUNTY – Cooke County Sheriff’s Department arrested Ronnie Luke Mathews, 33, after leading an officer on a high-speed pursuit and found in possession of a handgun, methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, and lidocaine. Mathews is a convicted felon.
On the afternoon of Thursday, October 17th, Corporal Durden observed a black motorcycle without a rear license plate make a sudden turn west when it saw the Sheriff’s vehicle turning east, the direction the motorcycle had originally intended to go.
Corporal Durden decided to investigate and located the motorcycle behind a Gateway gas station where he observed the driver of the motorcycle, later identified as Mathews, disregard several stop signs.
The officer activated his emergency light and sirens and attempted to stop Mathews. Mathews accelerated and began to pass vehicles in a no-passing zone, exceeding speeds of 100 mph. The chase continued until Hemming Road where Mathews lost control of the motorcycle and was taken into custody.
It appears the motorcycle was spray painted black and the lack of license plates led officers to believe it may have been stolen.
