SAN ANGELO, TX — Former Congressman Allen B. West will be the keynote speaker at the annual fundraiser for the Concho Valley Republican Women on October 19 at Angelo State University's Houston Harte Center CJ Davidson Conference Hall, 1910 Rosemont Dr., San Angelo.
West's latest book, Hold Texas, Hold the Nation: Victory or Death was published October 15, 2019. The book describes Texas as one of the last firewalls to hold the Republican and conservative political movement alive as the nation drifts further and further left following President Barrack Obama's fundamental transformation of the country at the federal level 2009-2017.
"As more people pour into Texas, they bring with them liberal and socialist ideologies as they try to swing the state from red to blue. These plans for changing policies will suffocate the highly successful capitalist state and its residents, and according to Lt. Col. Allen West (Ret.), allowing these liberal ideals to creep into the legislative branch will be the death of Texas," the book's cover explains.
West, who is a one-term congressman from Florida's Panhandle until 2012, moved to Texas five years ago, and announced in August he is running for the Texas Republican Party Chairmanship. He is challenging incumbent James Dickey. West moved to North Texas in 2014 after being named CEO of the Dallas-based National Center for Policy Analysis. He has since stepped down to pursue his political campaign.
According to his official biography, West is the third of four generations of military servicemen in his family. During his 22-year career in the United States Army, Lieutenant Colonel West served in several combat zones and received many honors including a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, one with Valor device, and a Valorous Unit Award. In 1993 he was named the US Army ROTC Instructor of the Year.
West is an avid distance runner, a Master SCUBA diver, a motorcyclist, and in his spare time he enjoys cheering his beloved Tennessee Volunteers.
Lt. Col. West is a legacy life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, life member of the American Legion, life member of the Association of the United States Army and the Society of the First Infantry Division, Patriot Life Member (Benefactor) and Board of Directors member of the National Rifle Association. Lieutenant Colonel West is an inductee into the University of Tennessee Army ROTC Hall of Fame. He is on the Board of Advisors of Amegy Bank, Dallas Region. West was appointed by Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick to the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission.
He is married to Dr. Angela Graham-West, a financial adviser, and they have two daughters, Aubrey, who recently graduated with her Masters from SMU, now attending Physician Assistant school in West Virginia, and youngest daughter, Austen.
