SAN ANGELO, TX — A man in overalls fled from police following a traffic stop just before noon on Friday.
San Angelo police learned that the driver had an outstanding warrant for his arrest from another county and pulled his car over in the parking lot of Diego Burrito's at the corner of West Avenue N and Ben Ficklin Road.
The driver of the car then hopped out and ran behind Diego's and then behind Nazareth Presbyterian Church.
WATCH:
A police officer chased him on foot before tasing him on the corner of West Avenue O and South Randolph Street, according to his calls on the police radio channel.
The officer sustained a hand wound during the pursuit and was treated on the scene.
The man was arrested only for the outstanding warrant, but will most likely face additional charges once the situation is sorted out, officers said.
A taser is a weapon firing barbs attached by wires to batteries, causing temporary paralysis of a subject. It can be used in lieu of a handgun or long rifle, saving lives.
UPDATE 1:21 P.M.:
The San Angelo Police Department have identified the man in overalls as 48-year-old James Dennis.
Dennis was wanted for warrants out of Hockley County for a Parole Violation and Burglary of a Building. He now faces charges of resisting arrest, evading arrest, and five other traffic violations.
Police say that during the initial struggle, Dennis reached in the center console before he fled. After they arrested Dennis, officers found two screw drivers in between Dennis' seat and the center console.
Inside Dennis' truck were other miscellaneous items including a large amount of tools, small electronic devices, and large planks of wood in the bed of the truck.
