Sutliff & Stout Announces 2019 Scholarship Recipients

SAN ANGELO, TX — Sutliff & Stout, Injury & Accident Law Firm is excited to announce the recipients of its annual scholarship contests. This year the firm offered three scholarships, one scholarship for undergraduate students and two for law school students. Students were selected from a competitive national applicant pool demonstrating good academic standing and a well written essay.

The Firm launched the First Step to Distraction-Free Driving Scholarship in 2016 to encourage safe driving habits among teenagers. With the growth of the organization it added the Law School Scholarship and this year the Diversity in Law Scholarship, to promote diversity within the legal profession.

This year’s winners are:

Nathan Waldron, a San Angelo native, is the recipient of the 2019 First Step Scholarship. Nathan is studying electrical engineering at Texas A&M University. “Thank you for supporting my education,” Nathan said. “Your generosity will allow me to focus on my classes and excel academically.”

Roke Iko is the recipient of the Law School Scholarship. She is originally from Houston, Texas and attended Washington University in St. Louis where she studied anthropology and writing. After graduation, Roke moved to Washington, DC where she worked in the health policy and research sphere for a few years before attending law school at Georgetown Law.

“I am very excited to hear that Sutliff & Stout is generously providing me with a scholarship! This means so much to me and my education,” Roke said.

Zoraima Pelaez is the recipient of the inaugural Diversity in Law Scholarship. She is a proud child of Mexican and Colombian immigrants and first generation college graduate from The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a BA in Humanities and a concentration in public policy, communication, and women’s and gender studies.

“This scholarship will not only allow me to focus on my studies, but also dedicate time to providing pro bono services and connecting to public interest opportunities in my community,” Zoraima said.

Zoraima will begin law school this fall at The University of Texas School of Law, where she plans to pursue a career in civil rights law.

Sutliff & Stout has provided thousands of dollars to deserving students over the years. “The caliber of our scholarship winners this year is excellent,” says attorney Hank Stout. “We wish them the very best in the pursuit of their educational goals.”
