BROWNWOOD, TX -- A car chase in Brownwood last night became airborne and afterwards police found a lot of methamphetamine.
According to the Brownwood Bulletin, on August 29, deputies with the Brown County Sheriffs' Office pulled over a pickup that ran a stop sign on 8th and Brady street.
The man told the deputy that his name was Alex Lopez, 34, but he did not have a driver's license. The deputy then asked Lopez to step out of the vehicle but he refused.
This made the deputy to force the man out of his vehicle. During the struggle Lopez put the truck in drive, and dragged the deputy for several feet.
The deputy was able to get back to his cruiser and a chase ensued. They went through a number of blind intersections at speeds up to 70 miles per hour and at on point the deputy says they were airborne.
Eventually Lopez lost control of his truck, spun out, and tried to take off running. He was later captured and placed under arrest.
After searching his vehicle, Lopez was found in possession of 173 grams of Meth that was placed in eight different baggies. They also found one stolen gun, another legal gun, and $1,000 cash.
Lopez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant, manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of two firearms by a felon, evading arrest with a vehicle, evading arrest with previous conviction and theft of a firearm. he is currently in the Brown County Jail and his bond is set at $155,000.
