EAGLE PASS, TX — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South Station seized 1.8 pounds of methamphetamine at the U.S. Highway 57 immigration checkpoint, Aug. 27.
"Criminal organizations continue to use creative methods of concealment," said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz. "Smugglers will attempt different techniques, including the use of body carriers, as was the case in this arrest."
Border Patrol agents referred an Eagle Pass woman to secondary inspection after a service canine alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle she was driving. A search led to the discovery of 1.8 pounds of methamphetamine concealed on the woman beneath her clothing. The methamphetamine has an estimated street value of nearly $58,000. The driver and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency.
