Oilfield Hand Dies in Pumpjack Accident

MIDLAND, TX -- Midland law enforcement authorities are reporting an oilfield worker was killed Monday in an accident involving alcohol and a pumpjack south of Midland.

According to a press release from the Midland County Sheriff's Office, 21-year-old Jonathan Brazell was found by a fellow oilfield worker at the base of the pumpjack.

Sheriff's investigators say it appears Brazell climbed up onto the pumpjack.  His body was found nearby.

Investigators say alcohol was found at the scene but didn't say whether alcohol contributed to the death.

An autopsy has been ordered.
