SAN ANGELO, TX -- A man was arrested on Wednesday after chasing a woman with a knife threatening to kill her.
According to court documents, on August 14, the San Angelo Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of W 17th st for the report of a man who was chasing a woman with a knife.
When police arrived they met with the victim and she told them that her and Louis Byers were riding together in a car when the two began arguing. This is when she said things got out of hand and she asked Byers to get out of the car. He refused so she pulled over to the residence on the 17th st and tried to get out of the car.
Police say as she tried to get out of the car Byers grabbed her by her shirt and ripped it. She was able to get out of the car though and run into the residence. This is when the victim says Byers chased her with a large silver survival knife and told her that he was going to kill her.
The victim made it inside safely and called 911. When Byers heard her calling the police he quickly left the scene forgetting his knife behind.
Byers was later found, detained, and interviewed by police. During the interview, Byers told police that the two got into a fight, he did rip her shirt, but the only reason he had the knife out was because it had fallen out of its sheath.
Byers is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently in the Tom Green County Jail and his bond is set at $35,000.
