SAN ANGELO, TX — Since 2014, Sutliff & Stout, Injury & Accident Law Firm, has been pouring into the community with its annual scholarship contests. In many cases, students are unable to attend college because of financial hardship. “We believe that everyone who has the desire to better themselves, their family, and their community through higher education deserves that opportunity,” by attorney Hank Stout. The law firm offers three scholarships to help students overcome financial hurdles in order to continue their education.
The First Step Scholarship Contest caters to out-going high school seniors or students currently enrolled in a college, trade school, or university starting the fall semester of 2019. Applicants are encouraged to write a 500-word essay on how to eliminate distracted driving behaviors. One student will receive a $2,500 scholarship.
The Law School Scholarship Contest enables students to pursue their passion for law. Students must be accepted or enrolled into an ABA accredited law school in the United Sates as of the fall semester of 2019. The most compelling essay on why do you want to study law will win the $2,000 scholarship.
Earlier this year the firm launched their Diversity in Law Scholarship Contest promoting diversity within the legal profession. According to ABA’s National Lawyer Population Survey, only 12 percent of active attorneys identify as Hispanic or Latino, African American, or Asian. Applicants must be accepted or enrolled in an ABA accredited law school or paralegal program. The candidate will write an essay on how their education will help their community for their chance to receive the $2,000 scholarship.
The deadline for each scholarship is Thursday, August 1, 2019. Recipients are able to put their scholarship towards tuition, books, and any school-related expenses.
Sutliff & Stout is committed to serving its community and views the scholarships as one way they can continue to give back.
