SAN ANGELO, TX -- There is a chance of thunderstorms in the Concho Valley Monday afternoon followed by extreme heat on Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, scattered thunderstorms are possible today, mainly this afternoon.
Potential hazards include lightning, localized flooding, and localized strong wind gusts.
Monday's thunderstorms follow the system that brought about an inch of rainfall across the area Sunday afternoon.
The NWS has issued an advisory about the heat beginning Tuesday.
Strong high pressure over our region will create very hot weather conditions across West Central Texas Tuesday and Wednesday.
High temperatures will reach around 97 to 102 degrees both days, while heat index values rise into the 100 to 105 range.
With prolonged exposure in these hot conditions, there will be an enhanced risk of muscle cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
If you have to be outside for extended periods, make sure you take frequent breaks in air conditioned buildings and drink plenty of water.
When possible, reschedule strenuous outdoor activities for the early morning or evening. Wear light weight, light colored, loose fitting clothing and check up on friends or family members who may be vulnerable to the heat.
