SWEETWATER, TX -- A Sweetwater High School custodian is without a job and facing criminal charges after police say he and a student got into a fight Wednesday afternoon.
Timothy Reeh, a sophomore at Sweetwater, was gearing up for football season by working out in the school's fieldhouse with a friend when he and Billy Johnson, 55, got into argument, according to KTXS. After the argument was over, Johnson later found Reeh and reportedly used a rod of some kind in an attack a few blocks from the high school.
"No matter who said what or did what, the adult in the situation had every opportunity to get back in their vehicle and separate and go on and follow policy, procedure and protocol," Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda said.
Johnson fled the scene following the attack, but was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Reeh told KTXS that football is his life and he feared his career was over following the attack.
Reeh just had to have a couple of stitches to mend his wound and should be able to play this fall.
"It could ruin my football stuff and I couldn’t play no more, so [I] was really worried," Reeh told KTXS.
Sweetwater ISD told KTXS that Johnson was fired following the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
