Shuttered Eden Detention Center to Reopen This Summer

EDEN, TX -- The company which owns the closed detention center in Eden, TX is hiring all positions and plans to reopen the facility this summer.  

CoreCivic, Inc. announced Thursday that it has entered into a new contract under an Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Eden and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) to activate CoreCivic's currently idle 1,422-bed Eden Detention Center in Eden.  The new agreement permits Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to utilize capacity at the facility at any time in the future.  USMS and ICE currently expect to utilize the total facility capacity under the new contract.

According to a CoreCivic press release, the new management contract will commence on June 1, and has an indefinite term. The Company expects to begin accepting USMS inmates into the facility as early as July.  Following the activation process the new contract is expected to generate approximately $35 million to $40 million in annual revenue.
