WATCH: Police Memorial Week Kicks Off with Solemn Ceremony

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- San Angelo Police Officers were joined by members of other state and local law enforcement agencies and members of the military Monday morning at the police station in downtown San Angelo for a solemn flag raising ceremony which included reading the names of officers killed in the line of duty in Texas over the last year.

Several events are planned to mark the week including Running with the Blue 5K and one mile run Wednesday evening. 

San Angelo Police Chief Frank Carter presided at the flag raising.  

San Angelo mayor Brenda Gunter was also present. 

Retired SAPD officer Rusty Herndon presided at the statue reveal in the front of the police station.  Herndon said they had been working on the statue since 2002. 

The is a time capsule in the base of the bronze statue.
