Driving Without a Seat Belt Left Deputies to Find Meth, Weed, and Gummies

BROWNWOOD, TX – A traffic stop for not having a seatbelt led to a man being arrested this morning for having weed, meth, and THC gummies.

In the early morning of May 9, a Sheriff's Deputy with the Brown County Sheriff's Office pulled over a man after he drove passed the deputy, fumbling, trying to put his seatbelt on.

The deputy approached the car and asked to see his license and insurance. Mykal Manzano, 31, was the driver in the car and did not have a drivers license or insurance. After learning he did not have these items the deputy asked him to step out of the vehicle. Manzano did not comply with the deptuy, but instead was digging through a bag.

While Manzano was digging through the bag the deputy saw a bag of marijuana. He then asked Manzano if there was any marijuana inside the vehicle in which he replied no but that he had THC edible gummies. The deputy told Manzano to step out of the vehicle and tried to open the door. The door was locked and Manzano began rolling up the windows of the car.

The deputy's arm was rolled up in the window and he was forced to use his baton to set his arm free. After freeing his arm, he removed Manzano from the vehicle. According to the Brownwood Bulletin, the deputy sustained cuts and scratches from his arm being trapped in the window.

The vehicle was searched and inside was one oz of marijuana, 14 grams of THC gummy THC edibles, 6.1 grams of methamphetamine, and a set of brass knuckles that had a built-in retractable blade.

Manzano was charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone, possession of a controlled substance, assault causing serious bodily injury to a public sercant, possession of a prohibited weapon, resisting arrest, and possession of marijuana. He is currently in the Brown County Jail on a $120,000 bond.
