Witness of Rose Murder: 'Alexis Set the Whole Thing Up'

SAN ANGELO, TX — Alexis Taylor, or Jackson, is how she is also known. She was the mastermind behind the murder of Kristian Rose, claims co-defendant Joshua Jaquez.

Kristian Rose, 26, was shot in the back while in his residence on 39th Street at around 3:40 a.m. the morning of April 2. Police have painstakingly investigated the motives and suspects over the past 30 days. Four arrests have been made for murder.

Jaquez was arrested and charged with murder after what could best be described as a police station confession on May 1, new court documents reveal. Alexis was the mastermind, he said. And she pulled the trigger.

Jaquez, though arrested and charged with murder as well, is the witness police believe the most.

Here is what Jaquez told police:

He, Alexis, Brian Garcia, and Jacob Martinez were hanging out at Jacob Martinez’s house on Angelo Blvd. In conversation, the four considered possible targets for a robbery or burglary. They were short on cash.

Meanwhile, Alexis was still fuming over a previous incident she had with Kristian Rose. Days previous, Alexis and Rose had an argument. Alexis informed the group the night of April 1, with all the moral outrage she could muster, that in that argument, Kristian should never have pointed that gun at her.

She wanted to teach Kristian a lesson, Jaquez supposed.

So a plot was born. The boys needed the money and possibly drugs that the group believed Kristian Rose had, and Alexis also wanted revenge. Alexis knew everything about Rose that the four needed in order to get him.

The four would get into Garcia’s girlfriend’s black 2013 Kia Optima and drive to Kristian Rose’s backyard apartment in the early morning hours of April 2. Rose lived there behind his mother’s house.

In a role reversal from Alexis’ statements in a police affidavit Wednesday, Jaquez told police Alexis demanded Jaquez get out of the driver’s seat and let her drive as they approached their target at Bonham and 39th Streets. She knew where to go, Jaquez relayed what Alexis said then.

“Alexis Jackson drove to the house,” Jaquez confirmed with police.

Alexis drove the Kia down the alleyway and once they arrived at Rose’s apartment, Alexis got out of the car with Garcia and Martinez and Jaquez resumed the role as driver and backed the Kia into Rose’s driveway.

Jaquez told police that Garcia, Martinez, and Jackson went to Rose’s apartment. The boys wore masks but Alexis did not.

“She wanted the victim to see her because he should have never pointed a gun at her,” the affidavit described Jaquez’s statement.

After the three went into Rose’s apartment, Jaquez, who was in the driver’s seat to act as the getaway driver, said he heard screaming. Quickly thereafter, the three hopped into the Kia for the getaway. The three “were excited,” Jaquez said.

In the excitement, a dog thought to belong to Rose had hopped into the car with the suspects as Jaquez drove away. As they drove down the alley and turned left, or north, Jaquez said Alexis told the boys she wanted to keep Rose’s dog.

Why, Jaquez wondered.

That is when Alexis admitted to him that she was the one who shot and killed Rose. The dog needed a new home.

San Angelo police detectives pieced together corroborating evidence that backs up Jaquez’s version of the events in the early morning hours. Using video surveillance recordings from the front of Rose’s residence, they observed three subjects enter the apartment. Meanwhile, police observed the Kia moving while the three were inside the apartment. Presumably, that was Jaquez positioning the Kia for a fast getaway by backing it into the driveway.

One suspect exited the apartment and a short while later the other two exited, police state.

Police noted on the video that the Kia turned north out of the alleyway, just as Jaquez stated.

The affidavit only offers a glimpse large enough to validate to a judge an arrest and charge of the four suspects of murder is necessary. The details of what happened that fateful early morning will be scrutinized in detail during a trial. That is, provided the accused do not make plea deals with the prosecutors.

All four have been charged in the murder of Kristian Rose:

Joshua Derek Jaquez is charged with murder and was arrested Wednesday. May 1. He sits in the Tom Green County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Brian Ray Garcia, III, was arrested April 18 during a burglary at an apartment near Angelo State University. He had three previous aggravated robbery charges. He sits in the Tom Green County Jail on $1.257.5 million in bonds.

Jacob Martinez was arrested April 18 with Garcia. He was charged with theft of a firearm, burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony, and for possessing a prohibited weapon, all related to the burglary of the apartment near ASU. He was later charged with the murder of Kristian Rose. He sits in the Tom Green County Jail on $1,067,500 in bonds.

Alexis Jackson (aka Alexis Taylor), 24, was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Thursday, May 2. She was charged with murder and her bond is set at $1 million.
