Photos & Results: First Responders Barbecue Delights Judges and Contestants

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- When Tom Green County Constable Mike Magee first thought about holding a barbecue cook-off for first responders, he thought he might have ten teams participate.  

As word spread and Magee chose the park at the end of Spillway Rd. at Lake Nasworthy, dozens of teams clammored to participate in the first annual charitable event to benedfit Aden Snider. 

Saturday, 33 teams competed in Barbecue jalapeno poppers, chicken, ribs and brisket on a beautiful afternoon under the pecan trees in the rarely used park.  

Jalapeno poppers were judged at 11 a.m. followed each hour by chicken, ribs, then brisket. 

Several police officers, Sheriff's Deputies, firefighters and volunteers were on hand to enjoy the event. 

Results were released after the final competition Saturday and are as follows: 

Jalapeno Poppers: 

1st     Riverbank BQ - Jimmy Martin

2nd    Circle H BBQ - Chris Hall

3rd    Just Wingin It - Ricky Weidner

Chicken: 

1st    West Texas Smokehouse - Kevan Amonett

2nd   Dr. Chillies BBQ - David Page

3rd    Wally Digs - Jason Wall

Ribs: 

1st     Just Wingin it - Ricky Weidner

2nd    Cowboys Cooking - Rico Vargas

3rd.    Grill Billies - Travis Mohler

Brisket:

1st.    Circle H BBQ - Chris Hall

2nd    Riverbank BBQ - Jimmy Martin

3rd     Texas Smoke - Daniel Rodriguez

The first annual First Responders barbecue raised $4,398.00.
