Early Morning Bomb Threat Closes Walmart on Sherwood

San Angelo police responded to a bomb threat at the Walmart on Sherwood way early this morning, resulting in the closing of the store for two and a half hours. 

The threat came in via telephone at approximately 4:20 a.m., an update on the Police Department's Facebook page states. Walmart was evacuated and police, as well as the Fire Marshal responded to the scene to investigate.

At 6:40 a.m., the scene was cleared and the store resumed normal operation. The Fire Marshal remains on scene for further investigation. 

As of yet, the name of the caller has not been released.

SAPD Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez said approximately eight police units responded  to the scene. The PD will take over investigation of the individual who made the call. 

Fire Marshal Ross Coleman explained the FD's response this morning: "We sent an investigator there first thing," he said. "It was a potential bomb threat and there were no devices found. There were no indications of anything and it doesn't look at this point that there was any credibility to the call. It looks like it was just a hoax for all practical purposes."
