SAN ANGELO, TX -- Details have come out about the second arrest of a man accused of shooting and killing a man in his backyard last Tuesday.
Gabriel James Ortiz Sr., 43, was arrested for obstruction or retaliation 24 hours after bonding out of jail for the murder charge of Ernesto Hernandez.
The second arrest stemmed from a jailhouse talk Ortiz had with another inmate while he was cutting Ortiz's hair in the Tom Green County Jail. Ortiz and the other inmate were watching a news report while cutting hair. Ortiz saw his wife crying on the report and said "That's my wife," the arrest affidavit said.
Ortiz continued by telling the other inmate how he was set to get out of jail soon and told him "She's next ... She f---ed with the right one ... I told her from the beginning, she's f---ing with the right one," meaning she messed with the wrong person.
Authorities then obtained an arrest warrant signed by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace J.P. McGuire. Ortiz was arrested in Winters with the help of the Runnels County Sheriff's Office and Winters Police Department on Friday, March 21.
Ortiz's bond was set at $250,000.
