34 ASU Alumni Inducted into National Honor Society

Angelo State University’s chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) national honor society inducted its 2014 class of 34 ASU alumni during a special initiation ceremony on Saturday, July 26, in the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center.

PKP is one of the nation’s most prestigious academic honor societies for students in all academic fields. Invitations to join PKP are extended to juniors in the top 7.5 percent of their class and to seniors and graduate students in the top 10 percent of their class. Faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction may also qualify. ASU received its charter for a local chapter in the spring of 2013.           

This year’s ASU alumni inductees are: Kimberly D. Adams, Mayra Lucero Aldrete, Michael Baker, Walter M. Baranowski, Mimi Hege Baugh, Donna Baumgardner, Jayne Maddux Burton, Bobby Blaine Campbell, Richard Caraway, Lindsay L.X. Carr, Diana Kay Chandler, Ivan Chavez, Leanna Karma Childress, Benjamin Jennings Ellery, Thomas Cullen Grady, Kristin Beth Hamnett, Kelley Renee Harlow, Margaret Hemmen, Kathleen Therese Hunter, Lauren Ralph Lansford, Alan J. Looney and Samuel Luedecke.

Also, Desirae E. Maldonado, DeAngelina McGee, Alvin Dean Monroe, Sarah Beth Renfro, Maria E. Ruiz, Erika L. Scobel, Joe’l Brookes Sefcik, Maria Tamez-Marquez, Sarah Anne Teaff, Kendra Lynae Wade, Anita M. Wheeler and Camille Wilson.

Sixty-seven ASU students were inducted into PKP in April.

Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society encompassing all academic disciplines. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Phi Kappa Phi is considered one of the nation’s most prestigious honorary societies along with Phi Beta Kappa, which recognizes majors in the arts and sciences, and Sigma Xi, which honors majors in the sciences.
