LUBBOCK, TX – A teacher has turned himself in on Thursday after being charged with possession of child pornography because he was allegedly recording videos underneath girl's desks.
On February 21, a female child told fellow teachers at the Lubbock Cooper North Elementary School about what 36-year-old teacher Cody Taylor was doing. After the first girl spoke up another one followed. According to KRBC, “The girls were crying and visibly shaking,” the arrest warrant said. “[The girls] reported that the Defendant was taking pictures of them with a camera under a table, and that they were scared of him.”
After hearing the students the principal confronted Taylor and asked him to show him his phone. Taylor denied his request but an arrest warrant was quickly issued and police found a deleted video of children's lower area underneath desks. They also found searches that related to child pornography. Taylor admitted that he had tried to look at them when he was younger, but would never do that now. He also said that the video was an accident and that is why he had deleted it.
Lubbock ISD released the following statement concerning Taylor:
"Student safety and well-being is the utmost priority of Lubbock-Cooper ISD. As soon as campus administrators were made aware of potentially inappropriate behavior exhibited by this employee, the employee was removed from the classroom and was not permitted any further contact with Lubbock-Cooper ISD students. The district immediately contacted law enforcement officials and cooperated fully in the investigative process, which began the same day. This employee resigned on Friday, February 22, during the investigation."
Taylor is currently in the Lubbock County Jail and a bond has not been set at this time.
