ABILENE, TX – An Abilene murder suspect who is accused of killing his ex mother-in-law was found incompetent to stand trial after an evaluation by a psychiatrist.
On Aug. 31, Lin Rushing, the mother-in-law of Gary Clinton, 50, was found dead in her home by her husband Larry. Police later found a knife that would have a DNA match to Clinton.
According to KTXS, two hours before the murder, Clinton was seen burning clothes outside his apartment on Jefferson Street. When police went inside his apartment, they found "burned items, broken glass, holes in the walls, and forks and hangers stabbed into the walls."
Clinton had also called and left a disturbing voice mail the morning of the murder ending in the phrase "don't take it personally."
The damage to his apartment was what originally landed Clinton in the Taylor County Jail four days after the murder, but on Sept. 18 he was charged with the murder of his ex mother-in-law.
Clinton hadn't been associated in the family for more than 10 years, and police say that he claims to have no idea who Lin Rushing is.
Clinton has been sent to a mental facility for 180 days and will be reevaluated after that time.
