SAN ANGELO, TX -- A Grape Creek man was arrested Tuesday after not showing up to a pre-trial hearing and for assaulting a Sheriff's deputy.
On Feb. 2, 2018 deputies with the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office received a call about a man who had assaulted his brother.
When they arrived they found Omar Gonzales, 36, outside of the trailer home talking on the phone. According to an affidavit, Gonzales appeared to be "distraught and excited."
Gonzales told officers that someone inside the house assaulted his parents, brother, and other family members. His brother Erick Gonzales then exited the trailer to inform the deputies that he called them about being assaulted and that no one else was inside. Erick also told deputies that his brother was acting weird and seeing things which were not there.
Deputies then attempted to put Gonzales into the back of a patrol vehicle to interview him about the assault. Gonzales took off running onto the porch and into the house, but one of the deputies was able to grab his shirt before he could get inside. After the deputy grabbed his shirt Gonzales slammed the door on his arm as an attempt to get away. The deputy's arm was cut in three separate places which caused bleeding and swelling. They were able to get inside the home and take down Gonzales.
He was charged with evading arrest, assault of a public servant and resisting arrest. This is not the first time Gonzales tried to assault police either.
On April 2, 2018 Gonzales was at the Deluxe Inn Motel in Odessa when Odessa Police received a call about a man causing problems in the parking lot. According to the City of Odessa, Gonzales had dilated pupils and was intoxicated on a substance other than alcohol.
Officers attempted to arrest Gonzales, but when they did Gonzales pushed one of the officers down. Then he grabbed the other officers taser and attempted to tase him. Gonzales didn't stop after that, he kicked officers several times and kicked one in the groin during the fight. He was eventually arrested and charged with taking a weapon from a peace officer, assault to a public servant, evading arrest, resisting arrest, and public intoxication.
Gonzales Final Pre-trial was on March 5 but he did not appear to the trial. His bond was revoked and he now will sit in the Tom Green County Jail until his next trial date. The court has rescheduled the the pre-trial to April 2 which will move his jury trial to April 22.
