SAN ANGELO, TX -- Popular Fox News Host Tucker Carlson is under fire for refusing to apologize for comments he made years ago about underage marriages arranged by former Fundamental Latter Day Saints (FLDS) leader Warren Jeffs at the Yearning for Zion Ranch near Eldorado, TX.
Carlson said in 2009, "I am not defending underage marriage at all -- I just don't think it's the same thing exactly as pulling a child from a bus stop and sexually assaulting that child...The rapist in this case has made a lifelong commitment to live and take care of the person so it is a little different. I mean, let's be honest about that."
The left wing advocacy group Media Matters published a YouTube video with a compilation of Carlson's remarks (NSFW):

Cult leader Warren Jeffs was at one time one of the FBI's ten most wanted fugitives. Jeffs was eventually captured and convicted on two counts of sexual assault of a child in 2011 and is serving life plus 20 years in prison. He was tried in District Court in Tom Green County by Judge Barbara Walther and over 400 women and children were taken from the YFZ ranch near Eldorado and were sheltered at Ft. Concho in San Angelo.
While in prison, Jeffs wrote to every elected official in Tom Green County urging them to release him from prison.
Carlson said, "Anyone who disagrees with my views is welcome to come on and explain why." in a statement following the release of the audio clips by Media Matters, an organization that brags it "Exposes Right-Wing Lies" on their website.
Update: Tucker Carlson is fighting back. Here's what he said on his show Monday evening:

PermalinkThe young women of the FLDS were torn from the only families and values they knew, for the need to indoctrinate them into the mainstream wonderful world of self-hatred and neurosis:
Your ways are not our ways. You were part of something we find distasteful. See this (birth) date on this calendar? It's the difference between whether we give you our blessings or psychologically drive you into a lifetime of bouts of anxiety and shame!
How many of you had grandparents/great grandparents who were knocking each other up at 13-14 years of age, without the feds kicking down their doors?
Exactly.
Tucker cited the distinctive differentiation between two things which have become erroneously synonymous within the court of public opinion, and HE'S the bag guy? Typical.
Question the witch hunt and you may as well be the witch, itself.

PermalinkIsn't teaching any form of religion, from mainstream Christianity to atheism, to children, who have no opportunity to explore other ideas, indoctrination? You may think that the FLDS suffered persecution of their religious freedoms, but that self-isolated cult was a pedophile magnet every bit as much as some SE Asian nations.

PermalinkSuch passion... but do you know anything about the FLDS? They weren't 14 year olds knocking each other up, they were marrying 14 year olds to 40 and 50 year olds.
