SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angeloans made their way to the El Paseo de Santa Angela, located at Avenue D and S. Orient, on March 2 to join in on the 12th Annual Texas Independence Day Celebration.
On March 2 1836, Texas declared its independence from Mexico in hopes to become one of the greatest countries in the world. Texas won its independence through many battles including the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. The Republic of Texas lasted for 16 years until joining the United States in 1845.
People from all across the state celebrated independence day through many different ways. In San Angelo many people gathered to have a chilli cook off that would benefit the Daughters of the American Republic and the Special Olympics of Texas. "With San Angelo being a smaller community this still shows that we care about Texas," said Jerry Eastman. "We want everyone to come out and see what it's about."
Another event that was available was the car show. There were drag cars, street cars, and hot rods.
