SAN ANGELO, TX — About a dozen dog owners met at the Bell’s Trailhead at the San Angelo State Park to enjoy a chilly morning with their dogs and nature Saturday morning.
According to Bonnie Wallace, the Park’s interpreter who led the hike, citizens were invited to bring their dogs and enjoy a short hike on one of the less well-known trails in the park. The hike traveled a little over 1.5 miles in the park and took about two hours.
Bell’s Trailhead is on the north side of the park.
“This site doesn’t get as much traffic because most people don’t know about it,” Wallace said.

Those who came out for the hike saw plants, wildlife, and longhorn steers. When Wallace scouted the trail prior to the event, she discovered a den of raccoons. They also investigated signs of beavers who reside in the park.
The San Angelo State Park, located on the west side of San Angelo, is operated by the State of Texas. Every weekend, the park offers fun events for anyone interested.
The dog hike put a different twist on walking your dog.
“Instead of walking your dog in town, or going to the dog park, this is another option,” Wallace said.
To learn about upcoming events like this at the San Angelo State Park, follow their event page on Facebook. The next event is a guided hike on Saturday morning, March 2.
Wallace promised more events for your four-legged friends in the near future.
