Legendary San Angelo Hall Up for Sale

SAN ANGELO, TX — A popular decades old San Angelo venue is up for sale.

The Knights of Columbus Hall (KC Hall) located at 3636 N. Bryant is listed for sale on the Dierschke & Dierschke website.

According to the Tom Green Tax Appraisal District, the building was constructed in 1983 and is owned by the nonprofit Columbus Club.

Norman Dierschke is a member of the Columbus Club.  Dierschke said Tuesday one of the main reasons the group decided to sell the popular hall is that volunteer workers required to maintain the facility were getting harder to find.

Dierschke says the Knights of Columbus Catholic fraternal organization was created in 1882 and the first chapter in Texas was created in. El Paso in 1900.  The first chapter in San Angelo was organized in 1920. 

Dierschke said they had a hall on what is now the San Angelo Central High School campus until the school district bought the land.  Then they built another facility on Main St. where the Houston Harte freeway is now.  In the early 1980s that land was purchased to build the freeway and the Columbus Club purchased the seven acres where the current hall is located.

Dierschke says the 15,000 sq. ft. Hall was built in 1983.  The 12 member board of directors back in the fall voted to sell the facility.  Dierschke says they waited until after the first of the year to put the land and building on the market.

Dierschke says the parent organization of the Knights of Columbus discouraged local chapters from owning halls where alcohol was served and that combined with the cost of maintenance let to the decision to sell the storied hall.

Over the years the KC hall has hosted church festivals, wedding receptions, quinceaneras, church services, dances and other events.

Dierschke says the seven acres and building are listed at $925,000.000 and all the proceeds from the sale will go to charity.    

The KC Hall hasn't been on the property tax rolls because in has been owned by a nonprofit organization.
