COLORADO CITY, TX-- The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office is investigating a poisoning incident that left one dog dead and others seriously affected at an animal rescue ranch in Colorado City before the new year.
Workers at Pets Needing Parents Rescue found some of their dogs disoriented after being poisoned on Dec. 29.
"And it was unusual. Then, we took a closer inspection [and] we realized that they were unable to walk," founder Jillian Raughton told KTXS.
Raughton believes someone illegally entered their facility on I-20 on Dec. 29 and used ant and flea killer to to poison the dog's water dishes.
"We do feel this was intentionally done because we did find the ant poison granules actually in the water bucket," Raughton said.
A Siberian Husky named Sara was the only one of the eight dogs poisoned to die.
Three dogs are still receiving treatment for the incident, while four have recovered from the poison.
However, Raughton says these dogs "aren't out of the clear" just yet. The workers are working hard to try to get the dogs to regain weight they lost.
"Like I said, these dogs seized for over 24 hours," Raughton said.
Pets Needing Parents Rescue is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest of the culprit.
The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office encourages anyone with that information to call them at 325-728-8319.

Sir:
The type person I despise the most is he/she who would abuse a child. Next on the list is he/she who would abuse an animal. I very truly hope the soulless creature(s) that did this are identified and punished very severely. There is nothing that justifies such an idiotic, cruel, and deeply cowardly act.
