FORT WORTH, TX — The Tarrant County coroner reported this morning that a 14-year-old girl badly injured in the crash five miles northeast of Cross Plains that happened in the day after Christmas has died.
The county reported Olivia Mikulik, 14, of Forney died at 2:32 a.m. this morning.
According to the Texas DPS, Olivia was transported from the crash scene to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth with incapacitating injuries. Two days later, the DPS still reported her in critical condition.
Of the four family members of the 2013 Lexus GX 460 in the crash that day, only one daughter, Alexa Mikulik, 15, survived.
On the day after Christmas, the family of Bryan Mikulik was traveling home to Forney, located in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, after visiting family in San Angelo. The routing they chose that day traversed from U.S. 67 to SH 206 northeast through Coleman and Cross Plains, intersecting I-20 at Cisco.
About five miles north of Cross Plains on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at 12:15 p.m., a Ford transit van driven southwest-bound by James Everette Hurley, 37, of San Angelo, lost control on the slick pavement and entered the northeast-bound lanes.
The Lexus headed the opposite way and the van collided head-on.
Hurley’s van had seven passengers. He was killed, along with 67-year-old Joyce Chase Collier of Brady.
Killed in Mikulik’s Lexus were Bryan, his wife Debra Ann Mikulik, 52, of Forney. Both teen daughters were transported to different hospitals. DPS stated that Alexa was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, while her sister Olivia was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.
Today’s death brings the total killed in this crash to five.
The Mikulik family name is well-known in the Wall and San Angelo area. Bryan Mikulik's father, Harvey, owns Mikulik Sausage in San Angelo.
