Legendary Colorado City Mayor Dies

COLORADO CITY, TX -- The mayor of Colorado City, Jim Baum, passed away Sunday at 82 years of age.

Baum was diagnosed with acute myleoid leukemia just 11 days ago.

He had been mayor of Colorado City from 1987-2001 and then from 2013 until Sunday. Baum was a former minor league ball player, playing catcher for two seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in the 1950's, a former author, writing several books including "The City With A Privy," "Mitchell County Trivia," and "Jails, Bails & Other Tales" and was a former broadcaster for the news station that he owned KVMC 1320 AM.

"Jim was a gentleman and a great local broadcaster," said Michael Schneider, Vice President of Texas Association of Broadcasters. "He truly cared about KAUM and KVMC being THE source for information in Mitchell Co. and he covered that community well. His passing is a big loss to that community and to broadcasting in Texas."
